I am curious to know if anyone has heard anything about this.... I've practiced yoga thruout my entire pregnancy she's due in just a few weeks. I am wondering if she is going to come out breathing in the yogi fashion of filling her belly as she inhales and deflating her belly as she exhales..... Is this something babies pick up from the womb? Or do they learn this as they are young lying next to yogi parents.... I have breathed in this manner since middle school so she has never really experienced me breathing in a shallow or more Western like manner... Just a thought that popped into my head and wondering if anyone had any ideas..... Thanx!

Sorry to digress but...Breathing in a western manner? Huh? Please don't tell me the yoga teachers in the US are now spreading rumours that people in the east breathe deeply (just like the rumour that all Indians sit on the floor and have flexible hips..if you've ever been to a local yoga class in India you'll see this in't the case).

Your baby will breathe naturally...the way people all over the world do when they are born. She won't be breathing that deep or that intentionally...you'll have to teach her. Remember breathing is an instinctual thing.

I believe that belly breathing is actually natural. However I think we get tought as children to "hold in your belly" too much, so that maybe where the "western" breathing comes in.
You'll know if she is breathing well or not....she'll let you know!
She will learn breathing Yoga techniques from you. She will also pick up on the energy that you have when you do yoga.
I think she is very blessed to have a Mommy such as you!
    Blessings,
    Karen

In Daoyin (Chinese Yoga) and Chi Gung there is a process known as Reverse Breathing or Microcosmic Orbit (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micr...ic_orbit). Which consist of imagining inhaling/exhaling through the navel and circulating the breath around the governor and reproductive channels (e.g., the center line of the body in front and back). Some practitioners contract the belly during inhalation, while others expand their belly. And then expand/contract conversely during exhalation. This is performed while the tongue is gently touching the roof of the mouth to complete the channel circuit.

This process is also used to breathe through the three Tan Tiens, located below the navel, the heart region, and the third eye. It's purpose is to restore and expand the immortal pill in the oven of the solar plexus ganglia. Doing so will allegedly give one immortality.

During pregnancy, women are encouraged to inhale/exhale through their "Bubbling Spring" located in the sole of the foot and draw up the elements to aid in gestation of the baby.

      :D

Across whatever distance, I send my love,

      Michael
