I agree with Liz, you should be fine as long as you're staying gentle.

I would completely avoid activities that make you very sweaty for the first week, no Bikram or heavy workouts, as tattoo ink can sweat out of your skin! Happened to one of my friends, very strange! We were at the gym a few days after her tattoo and when she wiped her arm, she had ink on her towel.

Hi Devon,
I totally understand. I just got my first tattoo ever a month ago on my upper back shoulder area and I had to teach a private the very next day! Believe it or not I was fine. It sounds like you know what you need to do to take care of yourself without it impeding on your students. But I try to keep in my mind that you as a practitioner and teacher should think of yourself first. Depending on the type/style of yoga you teach, you should be fine. you'll get cleaning instructions from your artist and it's doesn't hurt to ask them for their opinion.
Good luck and enjoy it!
:-)

I am not very vocal on this tribe, just here to listen and learn mostly, but I have a question for you all...if you do not mind.

I have recently begun teaching yoga at my university. Yay! I also (trying not to jinx it) am scheduled for a new tattoo on Saturday!!!!!! So...Tattoo on Saturday...teach yoga on Fridays. Will it be ok by then for just a basic gentle class you think?

I know the basics, stay away from strenuous exercise to that area (which will be upper back/shoulder area). With just about a week between the new tattoo and the yoga class, I imagine if I keep it simple I should be ok. It's simple anyway, but maybe more speaking and less doing with the arms for demonstration?
Thanks for all of your input!

And wouldn't you know it...I'm getting a couple of pimples in that area. Just in time right!?!
