Is this possible? Can learning to do yoga poses help to bring back the curves in your upper and lower back? I know yoga is supposed to help out with balance and stuff, but can it do these things related to bone structure? Sounds like a chiropractor thing rather than a yoga thing to me, but still want to get some opinions...

Re: Can yoga restore spinal curve?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 6:57 PMYES, but you have to be really consistent, have a really good teacher, and possibly combine it with some kind of body work. I recommend finding an expert in either Iyengar or anusara yoga who specializes in yoga therapy. One of my favorite teachers, Darren Rhodes, had a bad scoliosis and was able to recover through yoga to the point he has no pain - and he has one of the most awesome yoga practices I've seen. Maybe you could look him up and send him an email asking him for advice.

Re: Can yoga restore spinal curve?
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 6:58 PMp.s. the reason why it's important to do yoga, not just chiropractic or bodywork, is that you have to strenthen and train certain muscle groups to hold the bones in their new alignment. . . I don't think just having someone work on you would be enough. -
