So the past two or three weeks I've felt like shit cuz I haven't been eating much fruit AND have been missing all my yoga classes. Last night I finally made it in. Even though it was the most crowded session I'd ever been to (I think I'm close to giving up on yoga at 24 Hr Fitness), I had an odd moment. During one of forward swan dives, I had a brief craving for fruit. Like it just hit me out of nowhere. Usually my fruit intake is something I maintain as one of those it's-good-for-me-so-I-have-to-do-it kind of things. But it was trippy cuz I just wanted to eat some fruit right there and then all of a sudden.
I recall my old supervisor went back to being a vegetarian around the same time he started doing yoga, and he once told me that when he started doing yoga, it made him wanna eat vegetarian again (or vice versa, I forgot exactly). Anyway my question is have any of you experienced something like this? Is there a correlation between yoga and fruit intake? I should also note that since last summer, I've only been buying organic fruit.

Re: Fruit consumption
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 7:14 PMi'm inclined to say that doing yoga probably makes the body want sugar/sweet things of a liquid nature .. fruit or not ....
i am on low carb diet and fruit is mostly OUT in that case as most fruit is way high in sugar/carbs ...
more protein ... more yoga ... more cardio workouts outside of that ................. feelin' good .........

Wed, May 7, 2008 - 10:11 PMTotally! The body is very wise. Listen to the cells of your body. Yoga can help tune you in to the vibe.
Yeah, this is yet more evidence that yoga is healthy and good for you.
Om Shanti

Re: Fruit consumption
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:58 AMI definitely gravitated towards healthier foods when I started doing yoga. I've given up dairy completely and eat meat only rarely now -- most of my diet is vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, and fruit. -

Re: Fruit consumption
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 8:54 AMI'm there with Ellen. My meat intake has definitely decreased along with the dairy. I eat a piece of fruit twice a day, usually a banana with breakfast and an apple for afternoon snack. Yoga truly gets you into your body. Listen to it!

Re: Fruit consumption
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:12 AMI also notice that when I do other workouts (swimming, weights, etc) it makes me very hungry afterwards so I just end up gorging aka the do something unhealthy after you've done something healthy syndrome. I never really get that feeling with yoga. Maybe cuz you don't really burn off the same kind of energy and calories as you do when you're doing other forms of exercise.

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:41 AMeating a lot of chicken(breast) is working for me protein-wise ... no cow milk ... no ice cream, etc.. no cream ... but I do like my cheese and goat cheese in particular ....... I love nuts ....sprouted grain bread ....... -

I can relate to this. but the more you include yoga into your exercise program perhaps it'll switch? -
