Howdy Madan,

Dig your funky shades.

It is true that there are other methods. However, the yogadanda is also postural support making it possible to maintain a position with correct form for substantially longer periods than would otherwise be possible.

As to methods not requiring external aids, the best know is simply lying on one's side, which should cause the top nostril to open.

Sitting with the weight of one body on one buttock will cause the contralateral nostril to open.

Methods like nadivayuyantra will cause symmetrical dilatation of both nostrils (said to correspond to the opening of the central-nadi)

There are also attention-based methods that work but require more practice and patience to become proficient (the alliteration was non-intentional, but I decided to leave it in)

Warm Regards,

I should add that you should make the yogadanda about 2 inches longer than the actual distance to the floor. This allows adequate pressure to be applied but doesn't cause discomfort or misalignment of the back. Again, too long is better than too short.

Love and gratitude,

>Has anyone of you made use of the yoga danda for balancing air flow in your nostrils?

I have. It seems to work pretty well. There are other methods that work if the yogadanda is too awkward

>Did you encountered difficulties because of lack adjustement between your
>trunk length and the size of the danda?

No. This is because I measured the distance between my armpit and the floor in the two postures I use it in and then made two different sticks. BTW too long is better than too short. If it is too long, it can be adjusted by placing it at a slight angle (going from your armpit to the floor) rather than perpendicular to the floor. Too short and you have to misalign your back in order to get adequate pressure

>Where did you get your danda?

I made them in a friend's wood shop.

Hope that helps,

Has anyone of you made use of the yoga danda for balancing air flow in your nostrils?

Did you encountered difficulties because of lack adjustement between your trunk length and the size of the danda?

Where did you get your danda?

-----------------

Yoga danda is a rod or cane placed below your armpit which contributes to balance air flow in your nostrils, thus balancing ida and pingala nadis, thus activating sushumna and achieving success in meditation and pranayama.
Example: when left nostril is blocked, the danda is placed below the right armpit, and it is said that left nostril is thus opened.

Thank you
