India, the motherland of yoga, has lng been dominated by the religious establishment, which kept the country in a backward and impoverished state until recent times. The society was dominated by the Brahmins, whose religion is represented by the philosophy known as A-dvaita (non-dual) Vedanta.
Rational philosophies like Samkhya and Yoga, which are more like science than religion, were distorted beyond recognition and absorbed into the religion of the Brahmins. Buddhism largely relocated to Tibet, where they have been able to preserve the Buddha's teachings intact, a task that would have been impossible in India.
To this day here on tribe we see obnoxious attempts to suppress rational philosophy by creating confusion and distraction, all the while attempting to distort the practice of yoga into the practice of relgion.

According to studies Vaishnavism makes up 80% of Hinduism. Vaishnavas Brahmins are certainly not Advaitist. What to speak of the many other Brahmins, so many are not Advaitist. So how can Brahmins religion be Advaita Vedanta?

If it is so rational why can you not refute basic philosophical challenges.
There is some ignorance that the Yoga is linked to the Sankhya of the later atheist Kapila.
The Yoga sutras of Patanjali are theistic as indicated by the words Ishvara Pranidana and others as is the original sankhya propounded by original Kapila the son of Devahuti is also theistic.

Is this what you call a philosophical challenge? Let me add to your obnoxious repetoire: confusion, distraction, and lies. The connection between Samkhya and Yoga is well established. And the charge of atheist was the tactic used to suppress Samkhya in the past. That charge by the way, is false.
The difference between philosophy and religion is tht philosophy atttempts to explain the world without resorting to reliance on gods and other supernatural powers. The religious fanatic cannot talk about anything without resorting to god and religion. That is what separates the true seeker from the pretender.
I'm not here to talk about religion. Talk to someone else. -

Sun, March 15, 2009 - 8:07 AMSamkhya is not Advaita. This is not a subject that I'm prepared to discuss in any detail, and I don't want to be distracted from other things I'm working on. That being said, I believe the Samkhya position is that it occurs through conjunction or proximity of Purusa and Prakriti.
